Define and challenge the concept

Establish the problem, clarify the product, and expose unsafe assumptions before involving participants.

Current evidence

A public interface demonstrates proposed wording, navigation, fictional review steps, and visible product boundaries.

Gate to complete

Finish threat, misuse, language, accessibility, and claims reviews with named owners and documented findings.

Reason to stop

Pause if the concept creates false confidence, unsafe disclosure pressure, surveillance expectations, or inaccessible help pathways.

Phase twoNOT STARTED

Test comprehension with fictional scenarios

Evaluate whether people can understand and control the experience without describing a real incident.

Consent and control

Can participants tell what is saved, what is not shared, and how to edit, delete, or stop?

Boundary comprehension

Do people understand that the concept cannot monitor, investigate, report, or provide emergency response?

Gate to continue

Meet preregistered comprehension, accessibility, distress, and error-recovery thresholds.

Phase threeNOT STARTED

Invite independent scrutiny

Qualified reviewers challenge the design, evidence, governance, security, and readiness assumptions.

Safety and trauma-informed review

Assess distress, coercion, retaliation, exposure, disclosure pressure, and false reassurance.

Privacy and security review

Evaluate minimization, retention, deletion, shared-device risks, access, and misuse resistance.

Gate to continue

Resolve critical findings and publish the remaining uncertainty and disagreements.

Phase fourHOLD

Make a pilot decision—or stop

A tightly scoped pilot is an optional decision point. Stopping remains a successful safety outcome.

Readiness evidence

Define measurable entry criteria, unresolved risks, accountable owners, and reasons not to proceed.

Scoped governance

Require trained partners, informed consent or assent, external safeguarding, and independent oversight.

Exit and rollback

Predefine pause conditions, participant notification, deletion, recovery, and public reporting of lessons.
