How future work must be governed

Any study involving people—especially young people—requires a documented, independently reviewed protocol and qualified human safeguarding.

Synthetic scenarios first

Begin with fictional situations rather than requesting disclosures or documentation of real incidents.

Consent, assent, and withdrawal

Use age-appropriate explanations, voluntary participation, clear withdrawal, and additional safeguards where required.

Data minimization

Collect only what answers the question, separate contact details, limit access and retention, and define deletion first.

Human safeguarding

Emergency and safeguarding responsibilities remain with qualified people and approved procedures outside the prototype.
